how to pray tahajjud? in Makkah & Madinah

Importance of Tahajjud Prayer Lets Explore how to pray tahajjud. Tahajjud, often called the night prayer. While it is not obligatory, this Nafl prayer, also known as Qiyam-u-lail, is Sunnah of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). By performing it regularly, a Muslim gets closer to the Almighty and earns countless rewards from Allah. This act of worship fills life with peace and brightness, offering a unique connection to the divine. The holy Quran and authentic Hadiths strongly emphasize its importance, encouraging believers to embrace its practice for spiritual growth and eternal success especially if you are staying Saudi Arabia. The holy Quran says: “And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.”  Tasks for Tahajjud Prayer:- Tahajjud, starts by waking up in the night after some sleep, making ablution (wudu). Begin with the Niyyah (intention) to offer two rak’ah of prayer as a voluntary Salah. You can pray more rak’ahs if you wish, but two are the minimum. Start by saying Takbir (Allahu-akbar) and recite verses from the Quran during the rakats. After bowing and prostrating on the ground, ensuring your palms, nose, and forehead touch the floor, sit for a brief moment. Once you complete the two rak’ahs, finish with a salutation (salam). Afterward, make your dua, sincerely asking Allah for forgiveness and mercy. In your dua, you can seek Allah’s blessings, glorify His name, and reflect on your misconducts, promising to improve. End the Tahajjud with Witr, which should be the last prayer of the night, completing your devotion to Allah. Perform wudu Before starting Tahajjud, preparing with wudu is essential, as it is a fundamental ritual in Islam. Begin by making the intention to purify yourself and say Bismillah. Gently wash your hands three times, ensuring cleanliness. As you wake in the quiet of the night, set your focus on the spiritual journey ahead. Continue to cleanse your face, then your arms, up to and including the elbows. Next, wipe your head with Masah, a soothing gesture that signifies renewal, and finally wash your feet, ensuring the water reaches your ankles. Each of these steps is part of the sacred process, and following them precisely helps confirm your readiness for this act of devotion. Use this guide to learn the usual method, and let the act of performing wudu deepen your connection with your Creator. Set your intention When preparing for Tahajjud, it’s essential to first set your niyat (intention) with a calm and focused heart. Begin by making intention to offer your prayers, ensuring that your mind is quiet and free from distracting thoughts. Disregard any negative feelings and clear your heart of any worldly concerns. As you begin to pray, keep your focus on Allah, seeking His protection and mercy, while remembering your commitment to perform the required rakats. It’s important to keep a sense of closeness and spiritual awareness throughout the prayer. Make sure to close your eyes if it helps you reach a higher level of concentration and closeness to Allah, begging Him for protection from punishment. When you approach Tahajjud with a clear, open heart, you can deepen your connection with the Creator, making your prayers more meaningful. Recite the Qur’an When performing tahajjud, take time to recite the Qur’an with focus and devotion. Begin your recitation slowly, allowing each word to be clear and distinct in meaning. Whether you choose a passage from the beginning, the middle, or the end, let your heart connect deeply with the verses. This act should be done calmly, as it creates a peaceful atmosphere for reflection and prayer. Making the effort to internalize the words of Allah enhances the spiritual experience and strengthens your connection with Him.Interact with the āyāt When you come across an āyah about mercy, ask Allah for His mercy. When you come across an āyah about punishment, ask Allah for His protection.  A quick To Do list at the Time of Tahajjud 1) Remember Allah Upon Waking Up 2) Perform Miswak and Wudu 3) Wake Your Family Up 4) Pray With Fear and Hope 5) Recite the Qur’an Slowly With Reflection 6) Focus Fully on Allah 7) Seek Forgiveness Pray rak’at When praying tahajjud, there is no fixed number of rak’at to perform, but it is common to start with at least two. This prayer is traditionally observed as a voluntary act of worship and is deeply valued in Islamic practice. It is considered a sunnah, a tradition of the Prophet, and not a farḍ, or obligatory duty. Take time to pray with sincerity and devotion, focusing on the spiritual connection while fulfilling this beautiful act of obligation to strengthen your faith. Tahajjud Azan at Al Haram Sharif Makkah The Tahajjud prayer is known as the night prayer,it  is a voluntary act of worshiptht muslim  perform during the quiet hours of the night. It is not at all  obligatory but it is highly important for those seeking the merciesof Allah. In Makkah, the Azan for Tahajjud serves as a specific call, gently urging Muslims to rise from sleep and perform this spiritual act. While the five daily prayers are known as the obligatory ones, the Tahajjud is a unique opportunity for followers of Islam to draw closer to Allah in a peaceful, undistracted environment. The Azan acts as a personal reminder, motivating Muslims to leave behind the demands of the day and dedicate themselves to prayer. It’s a moment where Muslims can reflect deeply and strengthen their relationship with Allah, especially in the sacred space of Al Haram Sharif. Tahajjud in Madinah During my Umrah journey, one of the most memorable moments is the Azan for Tahajjud prayer, when I was  at Al Haram Masjid in Madinah. These were  quiet hours of the night, usually around 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. which  brought a peaceful atmosphere where followers of Islam can rise and pray. Tahajjud, known as the night prayer, holds great spiritual significance,

The Best Dua for Travelling: Stay Safe on Your Journey

When setting off on a journey, whether it’s by plane, car, or even walking, Muslims are encouraged to seek Allah’s protection through dua for travelling. This act is not only a sign of reliance on Allah but also a way to invite His mercy and ensure a safe journey. Reciting the dua before traveling can feel like a spiritual shield, safeguarding against potential harm, accidents, or any unforeseen challenges. Personally, I’ve experienced how this simple act brings peace of mind, knowing that the ultimate protector, Allah, is watching over me.Making dua sincerely and with firm belief in its power strengthens our connection with Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself emphasized the importance of such supplications, reminding his companions to always seek divine protection before embarking on a trip. This habit not only ensures safety but also fosters a sense of inner peace. For me, while preparing for journey (packing) reciting the prayer before a journey feels like carrying a spiritual safety net that keeps me grounded in faith and prepared for any challenges ahead. Travelling also strengthens our belief in our Creator as Allah mentions in the Quran: قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ بَدَأَ ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ يُنشِئُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ Say (O Muhammad): ‘Travel throughout the land and see how He originated the creation, then Allah will bring it into being one more time. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.’ (Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:20) For these reasons, travelling can also be an act of devotion to our Creator. Furthermore, other than continuing to observe our religious obligations such as prayers while travelling, as Muslims, we are also asked to portray exemplary etiquette (adab) when visiting other countries. In this article, I list some prayers and Duas which we may be observed at different phases of our travel, based on the recommendations of our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and our past scholars, insyaAllah Ibn Umar reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would mount his camel for travel, he would exalt Allah ﷻ three times and say the following du’a: Dua Before Starting the Journey (Hadith-based) The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised travelers to recite this dua for protection before setting out of home “اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ فِتْنَةً فِي طَرِيقِهِ” “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from being a trial during my journey.” This dua for safe journey helps protect the traveler from difficulties, distractions, or tests that may come their way. Dua from the Quran for Safe Travel Translation : O Allah, make easy for us our journey and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the companion on the journey and the guardian of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the difficulties of travel, unpleasant sights, and changes in fortune in wealth and family. Here is a beautiful dua from the Quran that is commonly recited by travelers is:                                                                                                              “رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ”                                                 “O our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the fire.”                      This dua for safe travels does not only seek Allah’s protection during the journey but also asks for blessings in this world and the Hereafter Dua for travelling by Airplane For those traveling by airplane, the following dua for traveling by plane is especially recommended. Recall this dua before you board to ask Allah for protection and peace:                                                                                                               “بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ”                                    “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah; there is no power and no strength except with Allah.” This dua for airplane travel asks Allah for a safe and smooth journey through the air, acknowledging His control over all things. Whether you’re travelling by air, land or even sea, the following du’a can be recited when mounting the mode of transport you will be using:                                                                                                       سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ  مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ             Translation: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. 10 Unique Tips for Umrah with kids

Essential Umrah Tips with Kids Planning to perform Umrah with your children can be a deeply spiritual yet challenging experience. Walking is a big part of Umrah, so it’s essential to prepare your kids ahead of time. Talk to them about the journey and build their excitement by sharing its significance and rewards. My 8-year-old daughter, for instance, didn’t complain during Umrah because she was mentally prepared and eager to participate. Once back at the hotel, let them relax with some screen time or their favorite activity as a reward for their effort. To keep kids engaged during long activities, involve them in meaningful conversations. Ask what they think about the surroundings or share stories about the history of Umrah to spark their curiosity. You can also play observing games, like spotting colors or landmarks, to make the journey enjoyable and keep their minds off the length of the distance. planning is key to ensure a smooth and fulfilling journey for both you and your little ones. Here are seven practical tips to make your Umrah journey easier with kids. This planning also consists choosing months of Umrah also, Ramadhan Umrah is already very rushy and demand extra effort. Similarly if u choose december or january months for your Holy trip thenits again chellenging. 1. Bring a Pram or Baby Stroller Walking long distances is obvious during Umrah, as you’ll have to cover approximately 1–2 kilometers daily, depending on your package. If you are performing  Umrah with Baby, a baby stroller can be a lifesaver for parents with toddlers. However, if you cannot manage or afford a stroller, wheelchairs are readily available in most hotel lobbies. Simply submit a copy of your documents, pay the necessary fee, and you can even take the wheelchair to your room. Tips for Managing Without a Stroller Opt for hotel-provided wheelchairs: These are easy to rent and ensure your child’s comfort. Pack lightweight carriers:      For younger babies, a soft baby carrier can also be convenient. 2. Keep Children’s Favorites in Your Hand Carry Children can easily get bored during long hours of worship. Keep their favorite items in your hand-carry bags to keep them entertained. Suggested Umrah Essentials for Engagement of kids Coloring books, crayons, and stickers Small toys or puzzles Storybooks or activity pads 3. Pack Snacks for Convenience Children often feel hungry, and the shops near the Haram are quite far and expensive. Pack dry snacks and other food items to avoid hunger-induced tantrums. Snacks to Carry Biscuits, chips, and crackers Cereals and dry milk for toddlers under one year Small bowls and spoons for easy feeding This will save both time and money, as snacks near the Haram can be costly. 4. Don’t Forget a Medicine Box Children are more susceptible to climate changes, and the journey can sometimes cause exhaustion or minor illnesses. Be prepared with a medicine box containing all prescribed medications. Must-Have Medicines Stomach and diarrhea medications Remedies for flu and throat infections Pain relief and fever reducers Stay hydrated and avoid heavy meals during the initial days to prevent stomach issues for both adults and kids. 5. Choose Comfortable Clothing Comfortable clothing is essential, especially for children. The weather can shift between hot and cold as you move between air-conditioned areas and outdoor spaces. Clothing Tips Opt for full-sleeve cotton clothes to balance the temperature. Avoid jeans, hard fabrics, and short-sleeved shirts. For December Umrah, pack warm clothes like jackets, socks, and sweatshirts. Adults can refer to our previous blog on What to Wear Under Abaya and a detailed guide on Comfortable Shoes for Umrah. 6. Ensure Enough Sleep Children tire more quickly than adults, and a lack of rest can lead to illness and irritability. The most advisable Umrah Guide is to allow your kids to have their full naps to keep them refreshed and healthy. A well-rested child is more likely to cooperate, allowing you to focus on your worship. 7. Use Safety Measures If you’re worried about losing your child in the crowd, there are excellent safety measures in place. Safety Wristband Devices in Masjid e Haram Makkah The wristband is designed to display the child’s name along with the contact numbers of their parents. This practical feature ensures that authorities or concerned individuals can easily reach out to the parents in case the child gets separated, providing peace of mind and enhanced safety in crowded or unfamiliar places. At the entrance gates of the Haram, you can use a device to register your child’s name, surname, and phone number. The machine will provide a bracelet with a barcode containing this information. For added convenience, ask the staff to write in Arabic. If your child gets separated from you, the authorities can easily contact you using the information on the bracelet. Rest assured, Makkah is a safe place, but taking precautions is always wise. ‏Free Childcare Service in Madinah near Gate # 339 In Madinah, a free daycare center has been opened in the courtyard of Masjid al-Nabawi.
