A fact

We loved the fact that the new Jeddah International Airport terminal is connected to the Haramain High-Speed Train Station. This makes the pilgrim’s journey more convenient and easy.

My experience

The Makkah and Madinah Haramain High-Speed train stations are located 15–20 minutes away from the mosques (haram), which I found both inconvenient and expensive. After completing the train journey, we had to rely on taxis to reach our destinations. At the stations, we encountered various individuals vying for business—some were official taxi drivers, while others were locals from Saudi Arabia offering rides. The fares they asked ranged from 60 SAR to 200 SAR.

In my case, I ended up spending 100 SAR on a taxi to get from our hotel in Makkah to the Makkah train station. The train ticket from Makkah to Madinah cost 172 SAR per passenger. Once we arrived at the Madinah train station, we had to pay 150 SAR for a taxi to our hotel in Madinah. When I calculated the overall expenses, I realized we spent more money and time than expected just to experience the train journey with my family, which included senior citizens and kids. The baggage sizing and handling process added yet another layer of hassle and inconvenience to the experience.
